The Green Bay Packers need to make another move at quarterback.
While the starting spot is secured with Jordan Love, the Packers do not have a strong enough option to back him up after the departure of Malik Willis.
As of right now, those options include Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord, neither of whom have shown they are capable of being a competent backup.
One options the Packers should explore in free agency is former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Cousins' best days are behind him, no doubt, but he'd still amount to a better backup option than anyone Green Bay currently has on the roster.
Cousins saw his downfall with the Falcons in 2024, but a late-season surge in 2025 showed he might still have something left in the tank.
The veteran probably prefers a starting job, but that kind of opportunity may simply not be available to him, which will likely lead to Cousins settling for a backup role.
Another potential option for the Packers is a trade for Indianapolis Colts draft bust and quarterback, Anthony Richardson, who was recently labeled as a potential target for Green Bay by ESPN's Stephen Holder.
"Update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson, who is available via trade," Holder wrote. "No deal is imminent, per multiple sources. There are interested teams, but the dust is still settling from free agency. One particular team to monitor: the Green Bay Packers."
Like Willis before the Packers acquired him from the Tennessee Titans, the Colts quarterback has not lived up to expectations. On top of struggling to stay healthy, Richardson hasn't been effective when on the football field.
But he still possesses an intriguing skill set with his combination of a big arm and elite speed. Perhaps head coach Matt LaFleur can unlock Richardson, much like LaFleur was successful in doing with Willis.
While bringing in a reclamation project like Richardson sounds fun, a win-now team like the Packers should look for a more sure thing.
Cousins isn't what we once was, but he's still a more stable option than Richardson.
