Matt Lafleur and the Green Bay Packers are set to welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to Lambeau Field on Monday night. One of the discussions making waves ahead of the Week 10 high-stakes game is the Eagles’ ‘tush push’ play, which continues to remain controversial in the NFL.

The Eagles have already scored three touchdowns with this play this season, while winning a host of first downs, making it highly productive. In his media availability on Thursday, Lafleur was asked about how his team plans to stop the Rugby scrum-like play against Nick Sirianni's team.

“I think the best way to stop it is to not allow it to happen,” Lafleur said. “You can't allow them in those short yardage situations because we know exactly what they're going to do and they've been pretty successful at it, obviously.”

Matt Lafleur, however, refused to go deeper on how his team intends to stop the play despite admitting they have a plan. While he didn't get into the fundamentals and techniques they've planned to stop the tush push, many anticipate what the Packers defense will be able to do better.

Per ESPN Research, the Eagles have executed the tush push 21 times through the first eight games of the 2025 season, converting at a 76.5% rate. This is a drop from 82.1% in 2024, 83.3% in 2023, and 92.6% in 2022. While defenses have made great efforts to stop the play on the field, the conversion rate remains high.

Matt Lafleur refuses to disclose whether his opinion has changed on ‘tush push’ after failure to eliminate it

The Green Bay Packers, under the leadership of former president Mark Murphy, proposed the elimination of such plays during the offseason. However, it failed after NFL owners discussed and voted on it. Matt Lafleur declined to answer if he's had a change of opinion on the play.

"I'm not going to get into it," LaFleur said on Thursday. "It is what it is. The NFL made a decision, and we have to find a way to try to stop the play, and it's a tough play to stop.”

After a series of discussions during the offseason, a vote was conducted on it by NFL owners in May. However, it fell short of the requisite 24 votes in favor by just two votes. Prior to the elimination proposal, the Packers themselves executed the tush push five times in 2023, converting four. However, they’ve not attempted it since then.
