The Green Bay Packers are 3-2 to begin the 2026 NFL Season, and they're heading into Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football down a few key players.

Micah Parsons is still out this week, and Josh Jacobs is still on the Commissioner's Exempt list. At least, that was the case until news broke on the Friday before Week 6 on Jacobs from the NFL.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL has removed Jacobs from the Commissioner's Exempt list before Week 6. But, there's a bit more to this news for the Packers than Jacobs just being eligible to return to the Packers' backfield.

Packers get huge news from NFL amid Commissioner's Exempt list update

"ESPN sources: Packers RB Josh Jacobs is being removed from the NFL's Commissioner Exempt list on Monday," Schefter reports. "The investigation will remain open for the NFL so it reserves the right to add further discipline if and when warranted. Jacobs is expected to be eligible to play in Week 7."

Jacobs is coming off the Commissioner Exempt list, with the news breaking the Friday before Week 6 for the Packers. But will Jacobs play this week?

This report from Schefter reveals that Jacobs won't officially be activated off the Commissioner Exempt list until Monday, following Week 6.

The earliest Jacobs could return is Week 7. The Packers, who've trotted out a rotation of MarShawn Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson, Chris Brooks, and Pierre Strong Jr. in the first six weeks of the season, appear to be getting Jacobs back soon.

Green Bay's passing offense has been electric this season, but they really need more from the ground game to have more overall success. Jacob's return could provide just that.

But at least for Week 6, Jacobs will remain out. His first chance at action in the NFL this season comes in Week 7. But that's not a guarantee, as the NFL is keeping the investigation open, leaving the door open for further punishment for Jacobs.

For now, if nothing of note changes, Jacobs will be activated off the Commissioner Exempt list on Monday after Week 6, and will have a chance to play in Week 7 for Green Bay after missing the first six weeks of the year.
