One of the biggest questions facing the Green Bay Packers this offseason is the future of star cornerback Jaire Alexander.
The seven-year veteran has one year remaining on his contract and is set to earn just over $16 million in 2024, carrying a cap hit of more than $24 million, per Spotrac. But with injuries limiting Alexander to just 14 games over the last two seasons, his availability and overall value have come under scrutiny.
That’s led to speculation that Alexander could be on the trade block — and one team in particular might be a fit.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen recently suggested that the Los Angeles Chargers could be a potential destination if Alexander becomes available.
"The Chargers signed Donte Jackson to a two-year deal and Benjamin St-Juste to a one-year contract this offseason," Bowen wrote. "However, if Alexander is available in a trade, he would be seen as an upgrade in Jesse Minter's defensive system. The Chargers are zone heavy, playing both single-high Cover 3 and split-safety schemes. Alexander has the play instincts and foot quickness to match routes, and his transition speed allows him to make plays on the ball. Alexander has intercepted 12 passes and broken up 57 in his career."
Earlier this month, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that Green Bay and Alexander have already come to a mutual understanding regarding his status.

"I’m told there already is an understanding in place between the Packers and CB Jaire Alexander to come to an agreement on his roster and contract situation first, prior to an arrival for the team’s offseason program," Anderson reported.
At the time, Anderson also noted that at least two teams were monitoring Alexander’s situation, though she did not name them.
If he can stay healthy, Alexander would be a strong addition to a Chargers defense expected to embrace physical, opportunistic football under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh’s Michigan team won a national title two season's ago, anchored by a dominant defense coordinated by Jesse Minter — now in charge of the Chargers’ defense.
