Packers' Bo Melton shares feelings on position change from wide receiver to cornerback

2 hours ago 1

Bo Melton may not have made the Green Bay Packers if he stayed at wide receiver.

But as a cornerback? Look out.

Melton has made a strong case to not just be on the roster, but he's expected to see snaps with the first-team defense in Green Bay's preseason opener due to an injury or two.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky wrote this on Thursday:

"In Thursday's final full practice before the game, Melton took some snaps with the No. 1 defense, which could mean extensive playing time on Saturday. Starting cornerbacks Nate Hobbs (knee) and Keisean Nixon (rest) did not practice Thursday. While Melton doesn't have an interception in practice yet, he has made several pass breakups against some of the Packers' top receivers."

Melton opened up about the whole process, too.

This is thoughtful insight from the Packers' newest defensive back:

"I definitely wasn't expecting to make tons of plays," Melton said. "I ain't made a million of them, but I've made some plays. I was like, 'OK,' so I did surprise myself with the skills I brought to the table, I would say. It definitely was fun, just getting out there with the boys."

Melton's brother, Max, is a cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals.

Melton himself has played 22 games over the past two seasons as a wide receiver and special teams player.

Green Bay has a stacked WR depth chart with names like Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Mecole Hardman, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams all in the picture.

Conversely, cornerback may have been the lightest room on the whole roster.

Not anymore, though. Bo knows corner, and the Packers may have uncovered an unexpected gem.
