Oswaldo Cabrera quickly finds new team after surprise Yankees release

Oswaldo Cabrera has already found a new home.

The utilityman, designated for assignment on Wednesday, was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Friday.

Cabrera, working his way back from a devastating broken ankle that ended his 2025 season, was batting .288 with a .790 OPS this year at Triple-A this year.

The Yankees made the decision — a “very difficult” one, according to manager Aaron Boone — to move on from Cabrera, 27, to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Clarke Schmidt.

Cabrera’s Bronx tenure ends after 304 big league games with a slash line of .232/.292/.635, 20 home run and 95 RBIs.
