They got it twisted.
Just hours ago, Costco posted an Instagram video for its 2.5 million fans with a major announcement: The big box store‘s famous — and much missed — churro will return to store menus for the first time since 2024.
At first, fans rejoiced at the return of the prodigal pastry, which was replaced by a Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie two years ago.
“SHUT UP GUYS, IT’S A F**ING CHURRO” wrote one extremely enthused online fan/
“Best news all week!!!” added another.
Alas, the excitement was sweet but short-lived.
Shoppers soon realized that Costco wasn’t resurrecting the original “straight” churro, which was discontinued — to much online moaning — in 2020.
Instead, Costco is bringing back its twisted churro, a serpentine stick of fried dough that Redditors claim is “too bready.”
Allegedly, it also lacks the satisfying crunch of the OG Costco dessert.

“We said churro, not twisted churro,” another whined, adding nose-blowing and crying emojis.
Many online fans were also disappointed that the churro is now 50% more expensive — it was just $1 when it first debuted in stores.
Some fans still miss the original straight churro from Costco. Reddit / choirchick21Some Costco crazies even twisted the twisted churro drop into an airing of grievances a la Festivus:
“We need the combo pizza back for good and the hand-dripped ice cream with almonds,” said an Instagram super-fan, referencing a discontinued dessert from 2013.
“No combo pizza, no care,” said another.
But there might be hope for the sad snackers, both online and in Costco’s 924 worldwide warehouses.
The supersize emporium recently announced it was opening 10 new U.S. stores and expanding in 9 states, with a goal to open 30 new locations annually in the coming years.
Surely, at least one of them will serve a straight-and-narrow churro at some point in the future.
