When you think of the Oshobor brand, drama comes to mind. “People like to lean into the conversation that less is more,” said Peter Oshobor, founder and creative director of the label. “I’m a maximalist, and I like to believe there are many other maximalists out there too.” This season, he was keen to continue the conversation that his last collection started, one of mystery, spiritual awakening, and magic. The show began on a strange and eerie note. Backstage, he explained his desire to mirror the closing look of his spring 2026 collection, which saw a model walking down the runway dressed in an all-black wool look and covered in black face paint.
The Lagos-based Oshobor enjoys blurring the lines between fashion and theater. From heavily padded skirts to an elephantine coat, he was eager to take exaggerated forms and silhouettes to a new level. The collection was heavily punctuated with extravagant and ostentatious looks, which appeared in such colors as bright yellow and purple. Sandwiched between the drama was an attempt to introduce more commercial and wearable pieces, including muted T-shirts and ivory-colored shorts.
In an attempt to showcase the breadth of his creativity and “take up space,” as he put it, moments in the collection felt disorienting and confused. Oshobor acknowledges he’s attempting to take the brand out of its comfort zone in a bid to offer the market something new and garner attention.
