Oregon loses former top cornerback Jahlil Florence to transfer portal

Oregon lost cornerback Jahlil Florence to the transfer portal on Sunday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Florence, a member of Dan Lanning’s first recruiting class in 2022, appeared in eight games as a freshman and started nine of 11 contests in 2023 alongside Khyree Jackson. He missed the 2024 season due to injury but returned this fall, where he was limited to two appearances and no stats. 

“Good luck the rest of season to my brothers,” Florence posted on social media Sunday night.

Over his Oregon career, Florence racked up 35 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and two interceptions. Once regarded as one of the top defensive backs on the roster, he was surpassed on the depth chart this season by Ify Obidegwu and Brandon Finney Jr.

Florence did not travel with the team during the past two weeks. Lanning said last month he was unsure whether Florence would redshirt, initially believing he had already played in four games.

The San Diego native was a consensus four-star recruit and ranked among the top 20 cornerbacks nationally by all major recruiting services. Florence can apply for a medical hardship waiver, which would leave him with two seasons of eligibility at his next stop.
