Sports are not necessarily an industry where nepotism runs rampant like Hollywood and other places. While being related to someone does afford more money and opportunity, the person still needs to be athletic and have skills to succeed in any sport.
Nevertheless, it does happen plenty. There are quite a few sports families and a ton of father-son duos in the NFL, MLB, NBA, and more. This time, however, it's an uncle-nephew duo, and it's not in the same sport. The Oregon Ducks just successfully recruited Kobe Bryant's nephew.
Oregon Ducks land Jett Washington, Kobe Bryant's nephew
On Thursday night, Jett Washington, the number one safety in the 2026 recruiting class, picked Oregon. He picked them over USC and Alabama, so it's not a small feat for Oregon to pull off even if they are a college football power.
Washington stands 6'5" and weighs 210 pounds. He's the nation's 22nd-ranked recruit and the top-ranked four-star recruit in the 2026 ESPN 300. For Oregon, he's also one of the top incoming players, trailing only five-star tight end Kendre' Harrison (the number 11 recruit in the nation) among all Oregon recruits.
"I have that great time with [Hampton] and the coaching staff," Washington said via ESPN earlier this month. "I loved the way they treated me out there. My relationship with them has been going the right way ever since I started talking to them."
Washington is a great high school football player and is poised to be an impact college football player. For now, he's also Kobe Bryant's nephew, but that should soon change as he continues to get better and better.
