"Only Moses or Jesus could win with those Giants": LeSean McCoy throws blame at the team as Brian Daboll repeats 2-7 record for 3rd straight year

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy came to Brian Daboll’s defense after the New York Giants matched their 2-7 record for the third straight year. He said after Sunday’s 34-24 defeat to San Francisco that the team’s struggles have more to do with the roster than its coach.

Brian Daboll has had a steep drop-off since his 2022 Coach of the Year campaign, when the Giants opened 7-2 and reached the playoffs.

McCoy retweeted a post from ESPN’s Dianna Russini that listed Daboll’s record across his first four years in New York.

“It’s bad but sheesh only Moses and probably Jesus could win with those Giants,” McCoy tweeted on Monday.

Russini’s tweet showed the Giants at 7-2 in 2022 and 2-7 in each subsequent season. Combined with New York general manager Joe Schoen, Daboll holds a 20-39-1 record since taking over in 2022.

After Sunday's loss, Brian Daboll was asked if he plans to make changes to the defensive staff.

"None of us did a good enough job," Daboll said, via Yahoo Sports. "That starts with me. We'll continue to work at it."

Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has led a unit that has allowed over 100 points in the last nine quarters. It has given up 30 or more in three consecutive games.

New York ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring and total defense entering Week 9. Bowen’s group has regressed from its debut season, surrendering consistent ground production and red-zone efficiency to opponents.

"Thought we eliminated some explosive plays, which was good," Daboll said. "But four of five in the red zone is tough, and three of those were on third down."

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 24 of 33 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns while adding 56 rushing yards and another score.

"Kid gives everything he has," Daboll said. "Competes 60 minutes, makes good decisions. We've got to do a good job of finishing plays around him, too."

Dart absorbed multiple hits while extending plays.
