An upstate teenager was killed and his 16-year-old pal was injured in a tragic upstate New York snowmobile wreck, state police said Monday.
Steven Gregorie, 17, of Varysburg in Wyoming County, was riding a 2012 Ski Doo snowmobile on a marked trail shortly before 12:15 p.m. on Saturday when he lost control and struck a pile of logs, throwing the teen from the vehicle, troopers said.

One teen was killed when his friend’s snowmobile landed on hjim in a snowy tragedy. NY State PoliceThe teen’s young friend, who was operating a 2015 Arctic Cat, also crashed into the logs, throwing him and the snowmobile into the air — with the craft landing on Gregorie.
State police responded to the scene and transported Gregorie to Wyoming County Hospital, where he died, police said.
The unidentified 16-year-old suffered minor injuries.
The deadly mishap came one year short of another snowmobile tragedy, when a 22-year-old Genesee County man was killed while on a late-night snowmobile romp with a group of friends.
Spencer Schmidt of Batavia was out riding with four friends on Feb. 9, 2025, when the group slammed into abandoned snowmobile on Fourth Lake in Herkimer County.
Schmidt’s friends were treated at the scene for injuries.
