One of LeBron James' most unbreakable streaks officially comes to an end

In early February, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who battled injuries all year, would miss out on a prestigious accolade at the end of the season.

Specifically, McMenamin noted that James would be ineligible for an All-NBA nod because it would be impossible for him to meet the 65-game mark/requirement.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Shams Charania made it official, ending James’ unbreakable streak of 21 consecutive seasons with an All-NBA first, second, or third team selection.

“2025-26 All-NBA teams: First: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, and Cade Cunningham,” Charania wrote on X/Twitter.

“Second: Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jalen Brunson, and Donovan Mitchell. Third: Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, and Chet Holmgren.” 

James was at a disadvantage from the start of the 2025-26 campaign, as sciatica forced the four-time MVP to miss the first 14 games of the year. Upon returning to the hardwood in late November, James embraced a new role as the Lakers' No. 3 scoring option and proved to be relatively successful. 

James contributed 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game with the Lakers in Year 23, shooting 51.5% from the field and 31.7% from three. Unfortunately, James fell five games short of his goal, causing his historic All-NBA run to become a thing of the past.
