You’ve heard Civil War stories far and wide regarding Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant, but one legendary historical figure you might not have heard of is William B. Cushing.

Cushing was a Naval Academy prankster who was eventually expelled. He actually had to beg his way back into the Navy in order to serve in the American Civil War. In 1864 he would lead one of the most daring missions in Civil War history. In short, the dude is a hero and an American badass.
