Olivia Miles faces WNBA fine after technical foul in Lynx win over Fever

Olivia Miles delivered one of the best performances of her rookie season against the Indiana Fever, but a moment of frustration will cost the Minnesota Lynx star. Olivia Miles could do almost no wrong during the Minnesota Lynx’s 108-100 victory over the Indiana Fever on Sunday.

The rookie guard scored 28 points on an incredibly efficient 11-of-14 shooting, adding six assists, four rebounds and one block as Minnesota extended its winning streak to 10 games. Miles consistently found her way to the basket against an Indiana defense that struggled to contain her. All three of her misses came from beyond the arc, highlighting just how dominant she was when attacking inside the 3-point line.

However, Miles’ impressive afternoon also included one costly moment.

The 23-year-old received a technical foul during the second quarter after expressing frustration over a no-call. Because it was her third technical foul of the season, she is now set to receive another fine from the WNBA.

The incident occurred after Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell stole the ball from Miles with 2:53 remaining in the second quarter. Mitchell scored following the turnover, but Miles believed she had been fouled before losing possession. She continued voicing her frustration and was assessed a technical foul with 2:37 left in the period.

It was Miles’ third technical foul of the 2026 season. Under WNBA rules, each of a player’s first three technical fouls carries a $500 fine. Miles therefore faces a $500 penalty for Sunday’s incident.

The financial punishment becomes steeper beginning with a player’s fourth technical foul, when the fine increases to $1,000. That amount remains in place through the seventh technical foul.

Any technical foul beyond that carries a $1,500 fine. Players also receive a one-game suspension after their eighth technical and for every second technical after that, including the 10th and 12th.

With 13 regular-season games remaining for Minnesota, Miles will need to manage her frustration to avoid larger fines and any possibility of eventually facing a suspension.

Miles leads Lynx to 10th consecutive victory

The technical foul did little to slow Miles or the Lynx. Minnesota improved to a WNBA-best 25-6 while ending Indiana’s five-game winning streak. The Fever dropped to 19-11 despite another huge performance from Mitchell, who scored 37 points.

Caitlin Clark added 19 points and 10 assists for Indiana, but the Fever could not keep up with Minnesota’s balanced attack. Miles’ performance offered another reminder of why she has emerged as more than just the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft has quickly become one of the most important players on the league’s best team.

Sunday’s technical foul will cost her, but it was a minor blemish on an otherwise spectacular afternoon. Miles helped Minnesota win its 10th consecutive game, strengthen its position atop the WNBA standings and send a message against one of the league’s hottest teams. The fine will be part of the postgame paperwork, but her 28-point performance will be the far more lasting takeaway.
