Oilers predicted to cut ties with 4 notable players this offseason

The Edmonton Oilers may not make it to the Stanley Cup Finals this season. After two losses on that stage to the Florida Panthers in a row, it'll be tough sledding to make a third appearance.

And if they come up shorter in the postseason, there could be plenty of shakeup coming in the offseason.

NHL Trade Talk writer Vivek Kalia has his eyes on four players that could be let go in the offseason:

  • Tristan Jarry
  • Darnell Nurse
  • Adam Henrique
  • Calvin Pickard

Jarry hasn't been good enough at all since his acquisition from the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he's been relegated to backup goalie duties the rest of the way.

"Beyond performance, there have also been rumblings of tension within the locker room, including a reported issue with a core player," Kalia writes. "Whether that played a role in his on-ice struggles or not, it certainly doesn’t help his case for staying."

Jarry is under contract for two more seasons, so it'd have to be a trade.

Nurse, too, would have to be a trade, but he does have a no-movement clause. His $9.25 million cap hit is a tough one for Edmonton.

Henrique is on an expiring contract, and there's no reason to expect the Oilers to bring him back.

Pickard, too, is on an expiring contract, and with all the goalie shakeup in Edmonton already, he may seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Whether anything happens with the even bigger names on the roster likely depends how well or poorly the postseason goes.
