Oilers' Frederik Andersen signing might be the best bargain of the NHL offseason

Frederik Andersen is one of the main reasons the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup.

He also just signed a one-year contract for $2.8 million with the Edmonton Oilers.

Somehow, both those sentences are true.

It leaves Andersen feeling like one of the best bargains of the entire NHL offseason.

Of course, it's always a bit more complicated than that. The Hurricanes let Andersen leave because he's 36 and because his longer track record may not suggest that level of play continues.

But in the playoffs, Andersen was 13-2 with a 1.89 goals against average and a 91.3 save percentage.

It ended disappointingly, Andersen not in the lineup to close out the Stanley Cup Finals as Brandon Bussi took over.

But before then, Andersen had been brilliant.

That has to count for something, and apparently it counts for $2.8 million.

It's quite the reasonable price for the Oilers to pay as they continue to try and work out their goalie situation that has been a bit of a mess for the last few years.

Andersen has a career 2.59 GAA and 91.3 save percentage, so it's not like the postseason was a total fluke. He's a good goalie.

Maybe his age is most of the reason he was available at this price, but relative to Sergei Bobrovsky's $7 million annual average value (for three years, and at two years older than Andersen), this seems like a steal for Edmonton.
