Oilers' Connor McDavid used 'pillow fight' in the funniest description

1 hour ago 3

The Edmonton Oilers, by Connor McDavid's estimation, are lucky.

For what exactly? Well, for what he called a "pillow fight."

We'll explain.

On Saturday night, McDavid was speaking with reporters about Edmonton's season. He pointed out that the NHL's Pacific Division has not been the strongest in the league.

And then he compared the division race to a pillow fight.

“We are lucky to be in the division this year," McDavid told reporters. "All the teams are. It is a pillow fight right now."

MORE: Oilers might be closer to Connor McDavid nightmare than it appears

First takeaway: Apparently McDavid never got in any very intense pillow fights.

Second takeaway: He's right.

The Oilers, after Saturday night, are second place in the Pacific Division with 77 points.

If they were in the Central Division with that point total, they'd be in fifth.

In both the Atlantic and Metro Divisions, the Oilers would slot seventh with 77 points.

The Anaheim Ducks lead the Pacific Division with 80 points.

For comparison, the Western Conference's other division, the Central, has the Colorado Avalanche on 100 points, the Dallas Stars with 97 and the Minnesota Wild with 92.

In the East's Atlantic Division, the Buffalo Sabres have 94, followed by the Lightning with 90, Canadiens with 86, Bruins with 86, Red Wings with 84 and Senators with 81.

And in the East's Metropolitan Division, it's the Carolina Hurricanes at 94, followed by the Penguins with 86, Blue Jackets with 85, Islanders with 83 and Flyers with 80.

The Oilers have a goal differential of just plus-1. The Ducks are actually negative-8 in that statistic. And that compares similarly to all the point totals above them in other divisions.

At least by McDavid's estimation, it's a pillow fight compared to something much more violent in the other divisions. The Oilers will need to bring more than pillows with them to the postseason.
