Blue Jays let 30-year old pitcher leave contract to find new team

Each spring, there are a bunch of veterans who hit free agency late in March.

Connor Seabold is one of those after spending Spring Training with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling reported Saturday that the Blue Jays have granted Seabold his release.

It was due to a release clause in Seabold's contract, according to Zwelling.

Essentially, that means that Seabold had wording in his contract that allowed him to activate his own release if he wasn't going to make the major league roster out of camp.

This signals that the Blue Jays are narrowing down their battle for relief spots, but they don't seem to have it quite all decided yet.

Seabold will now look for a new team, and there's always use for more bullpen arms.

Seabold has spent time in the organizations of the Philadelphia PhilliesBoston Red SoxColorado RockiesTampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves.

He most recently pitched in the majors for Atlanta in 2025, putting up a 9.82 ERA in four appearances.

He also pitched three games for the Rays in 2025 with a 1.35 ERA.

He spent the 2024 season in the Korea Baseball Organization. Before that, he pitched for the Rockies in 2023, a 7.52 ERA in 27 outings.

In 2021 and 2022, Seabold had major league time with the Red Sox, his first two MLB seasons -- a 6.00 ERA in just one outing in 2021, then an 11.29 ERA in five outings in 2022.

All added up, Seabold has a career 7.79 ERA at the MLB level. In the minor leagues, he has a 4.16 ERA. That lone year in Korea yielded a 3.43 ERA for Seabold.

He strikes out 7.3 batters per nine innings at the MLB level and walks 3.3 per nine.

He's nothing more than a depth arm, but someone will likely add him for just that reason.
