Oilers' Connor McDavid achieves NHL history only ever done before by Wayne Gretzky

Connor McDavid, the greatest hockey player on the planet at the moment, is keeping The Great One company.

A massive feat by the Edmonton Oilers' superstar on Thursday night has aligned him alongside Wayne Gretzky in the record books.

The accomplishment: another season with 60 or more assists. McDavid has now done that in 10 consecutive campaigns.

The only other player ever to have a decade of 60-assist seasons in a row was Gretzky, according to Eric Friesen.

To give Gretzky some credit: He actually had 14 seasons in a row of at least 60 assists.

McDavid had just 32 assists in his rookie season, when he played 45 games, meaning he would've gotten very close to 60 in a full slate.

He's reached the 60-helper mark in each of his seasons since.

That includes the 100 assists he had two seasons ago, which is McDavid's career high.

For his career, he's up to 781 assists in 767 career games (along with 395 goals). He had both on Thursday night, in the Oilers' wild comeback win to stun the San Jose Sharks.

McDavid is certainly playing well at the right time. In just a couple weeks, he'll be hoping to lead Canada to a gold medal at the Olympics.
