Oilers complete $2.4 million contract with 23-year old brother of Canadiens forward

The Edmonton Oilers aren't letting Colton Dach go anywhere.

They announced Sunday that the 23-year old Dach has been signed to a two-year contract extension that's worth $2.4 million in total value ($1.2 million per year).

Dach is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach.

The Oilers' Dach came to Edmonton in a midseason trade with Jason Dickinson that sent Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2027 first-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Dach played eight games with the Oilers the rest of the regular season, totaling two goals and two assists.

He appeared in five playoff games and had a single assist.

Dach had put up nine points across 53 games with the Blackhawks before being traded.

He entered the NHL as a second-round pick by the Blackhawks in 2021.

Dach played in the Western Hockey League for both the Kelowna Rockets and Seattle Thunderbirds before coming to the next level.

He spent the 2023-24 season in the AHL with the Blackhawks' affiliate in Rockford.

He has played in the NHL each of the last two seasons, along with some AHL time again in 2024-25.

The Oilers won't be counting on Dach on any of their top lines, but considering he's still just 23 and has some good hockey genes, it makes sense to keep him around -- particularly since they just traded for him a handful of months ago.

The cost isn't high, so Edmonton should probably feel good about this business.
