The Denver Nuggets have a golden opportunity to dig themselves out of an early 3-1 series deficit and find a way to extend their postseason.
Denver won their second game of the series in dominant fashion on Monday. With another victory against the Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo-less Timberwolves on Thursday, the 2023 NBA champions will get to host a win-or-go-home Game 7 clash.
However, failing to keep their championship hopes alive could compel the Nuggets to make a drastic offseason move involving their star point guard, at least that's what Locked on Nuggets’ Matt Moore believes.
“If this isn’t working and you have to reconfigure, everything is on the table,” Moore said Monday. “The only way to accomplish real chance is by trading one of the most beloved players, either Jamal (Murray), AG (Aaron Gordon) or both.”
“Neither one of them deserves that. AG’s been a folk hero. Jamal’s had his best season, and he might get moved because they don’t have a better option. It’s insane, but the stakes are that everything changes.”
Moore didn’t tell a single lie while assessing the current state of the Nuggets. Murray is among Denver’s most clutch performers of all time, and his video-game-like pick-and-roll/pop rapport with Jokic has been the Nuggets’ bread and butter when they hit a wall offensively.
However, the Nuggets have been moving in the wrong direction since their memorable championship run in the early 2020s, and another premature playoff exit could be the end of the Murray-Jokic duo in Denver as we know it.
Of course, a resounding first-round playoff comeback and eventual Western Conference Finals/Finals appearance could easily help the Nuggets put a stop to trade rumors surrounding Murray.
Until then, speculation on Murray’s future with Denver will continue.
