David Braun’s Wildcats are hoping to make yet another recruiting move and secure their first class of 2027 commitment. Northwestern made an offer to a four-star tight end Wednesday afternoon, joining 32 other schools vying for the athlete.
Among the interested schools are Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee. Of the 18 member schools in the Big Ten, 14 have extended offers to the tight end. The holdouts are Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and UCLA.
Hailing from Franklin, Michigan, Anthony Cartwright III is currently ranked No. 163 among national prospects, No. 12 among tight ends and No. 3 in the state, per On3.
The 6-foot-4-inch rising high school junior has offers from both the Wolverines and the Spartans on his home turf. He received his first division I offer from Kentucky during his freshman season in September 2023, and interest in the tight end has skyrocketed since.
Northwestern has 10 tight ends on their current 2025 roster. They’re a young group with only two upperclassmen, but the Wildcats have yet to recruit anyone at the position in the class of 2026. Securing Cartwright would offer Braun and his staff the opportunity to develop him into a strong longevity player.
However, it’s unlikely the Wildcats will end up with the Detroit Country Day student.

On3 projects Cartwright will select Michigan, with runners-up being Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida and Tennessee. All five are stronger programs than Northwestern’s, whose offense ranked worst in the Big Ten last season. Plus, staying close to home might appeal to Cartwright.
