Norman Powell opens up on the real reason he never got to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo

Norman Powell is now set to play for the Chicago Bulls after leaving the Miami Heat. Considering he signed a two-year contract worth $45 million with the Bulls, it is clear that he wanted more money from the Heat, but they were unwilling to give him that, especially with the Antetokounmpo trade.

He would have been the perfect fit alongside Antetokounmpo because he could thrive in transition and was a fantastic three-point shooter. However, it is normal for Powell to want more money, especially since he is already 33.

Powell would have been an amazing fit for the current Heat roster because he provides all the things they are missing. His perimeter shooting would have been fantastic with Giannis drawing so much attention. Unfortunately, that won't be the case for the Heat.

They are now looking for options around the league to solve their perimeter shooting issues. Klay Thompson is being thrown around as an option, but that is not a sure thing just yet. If Powell was more willing to have a lower contract, it would have been much better, but it seems he was unwilling to do so.

He has made comments about how he would have been a great fit alongside Giannis and Bam. That won't be happening because he signed with the Bulls, but it has also led to Heat fans talking trash to him because he went to Chicago.

"Honestly, I thought I would be going back to Miami throughout the course of the year. We knew they wanted to get Giannis. We heard some rumblings that ‘Norm and Giannis sounds really good.’ So I thought that was the path," Powell said in an interview with FadeawayWorld's Mark Medina.

The reaction to his quotes from the interview had him defending himself on X on Monday. It is an interesting situation because of that because he could have stayed with the Heat. It likely came down to the money, but the Heat were focused on getting Antetokounmpo and building around him, so Powell's contract demands were not met.
