The St. Louis Cardinals are four games above .500 at the midway point of May. That's good news. On the other hand, the trade rumors involving All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado continue to spin out of control.
While the New York Yankees have commonly been mentioned in Arenado trade talk, a new report said that is "unlikely," even after the devastating injury to Oswaldo Cabrera.
The Chicago Cubs are another option, although the Cardinals trading Arenado to a team in the same division would be a bit of a head-scratcher.
On Wednesday, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman spoke about the Arenado trade front, and a new team has emerged: The Detroit Tigers.
Nolan Arenado to the Tigers? 🤔 @JonHeyman likes the sound of it pic.twitter.com/JZIcgdf3OP
— B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) May 14, 2025"I've got Arenado to the Tigers," Heyman said. "They're not getting much out of third base. St. Louis would trade with them more easily than the Cubs...For the Tigers, it's a mere $20 million, and I like Arenado, I think he's still got something in him and the Tigers could use a little more veteran presence, I think."
"I'd like to see Arenado join the Tigers."
The Tigers are currently on top of the American League Central, and the third base spot has not provided good results. Jace Jung is hitting just .111 and Andy Ibanez is hitting .246 with two home runs, so there is no doubt Arenado would be a major upgrade.
Only time will tell, but the Tigers landing Arenado would be a massive boost in their hopes of making a run in October.
