"Nobody buying this," "Classless": NFL fans rip Quinn Ewers for promoting his merchandise before Dolphins debut

Quinn Ewers is set for his first NFL start on Sunday when the Miami Dolphins host the Cincinnati Bengals. Ahead of the weekend's game, the rookie quarterback posted a merchandise promotion on X on Thursday.

"Nobody buying this," another tweeted. "Not a good sign. Maybe focus on job at hand and do something at this level before peddling merchandise?" a third added. "Just don't shit yourself on the field again," one fan posted. "Lol this is what we're doing? Goofy," another fan commented. "What are we doing man. So unserious," one fan tweeted.

His post on X advertised a holiday sale offering 20% off sitewide at his merchandise store. The promotion featured a grey hoodie with the number 14 and a white t-shirt with his signature.

Quinn Ewers, a seventh-round pick out of Texas, earned the starting job as Miami benched Tua Tagovailoa on Wednesday. The Dolphins are eliminated from playoff contention following their loss to Pittsburgh on Monday, and coach Mike McDaniel said he needed "convicted quarterback play" moving forward.

Tagovailoa, who signed a four-year, $212.1 million extension in 2024, has struggled this season. He leads the NFL with 15 interceptions through 14 games.

Mike McDaniel hasn't committed to Quinn Ewers starting beyond Sunday's game against Cincinnati. His decision was based on what gives Miami the best chance to win its next matchup.

Tua Tagovailoa will be inactive as the emergency third quarterback, with Zach Wilson serving as the primary backup. Ewers; Dolphins teammates have praised his practice performance this season, despite him running mostly scout team offense.
