Johnny Manziel took to his Instagram Story on Sunday to explain his absence from “College GameDay.” The Texas A&M legend had been slated as the celebrity guest picker for the College Football Playoff edition of the pregame show, broadcasting live from Kyle Field on Saturday.

The former Cleveland Browns quarterback issued an apology to the show and Texas A&M fans in the post after reportedly falling ill. His absence was a big disappointment to College Station fans, who were eager to see him. Former Texas A&M basketball star Alex Caruso quietly stepped in as a last-minute replacement.

“I will have plenty more to say about what transpired [Saturday.] There is almost nothing on this earth that would have made me miss that game,” Manziel wrote. “To ESPN, Pat [McAfee], Coach [Nick Saban], Desmond [Howard], and the entire crew on GameDay, I apologize it was out of my control.

“To the Aggies and A&M fan base I’m sorry. I will continue to let everyone out there run with a fake narrative and at the end of the day perception always wins over reality. I love all of you who genuinely support me through good and bad like you’ve all done for years.”

Johnny Manziel’s apology for his absence on “College Gameday” hasn’t gone well with a section of the fans. Many are refusing to accept his apology for missing the show on the Aggies’ first-ever CFP appearance. Here's a look at some of the reactions online:

@nypost As the old saying goes “leopards don’t change their spots” perpetual loser, no surprise at all that he is Diego Pavia’s mentor

@nypost He certainly hasn't grown up yet.

@nypost So weird. Everyone gets a virus the morning after they go out in Miami.

@nypost He looks like the inside of his car smells like trash

@awfulannouncing Total loser

@awfulannouncing That’s on ESPN for thinking Manziel was adult enough to live up to his commitment.

Why Johnny Manziel reportedly missed College GameDay

The truth behind Johnny Manziel’s sudden absence from "College GameDay" on Saturday has come to light after he was quietly swapped out as the guest picker. Manziel reportedly fell seriously ill late Friday night with norovirus, which he picked up while spending time with family earlier in the week.

“While en route to the airport, his condition worsened, and following medical advice, he and his team made the decision to turn back,” a spokesperson for Manziel told the Daily Mail. “His team worked to connect ESPN and Bleacher Report with Alex to ensure a smooth transition on the show, and he appreciates everyone’s understanding under the circumstances.”

It's worth noting that Johnny Manziel attended the boxing matchup between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul in Miami the night before. He documented his presence at the high-stakes fight on Instagram. This has made many refuse to accept his excuse amid Texas A&M’s disappointing 10-3 loss to Miami on Saturday.
