All the discussion of free agents from the Dallas Cowboys has centered around wide receiver George Pickens.
But it's important to note that Brandon Aubrey is a free agent, too.
The superstar kicker is a restricted free agent, which comes with its whole different set of challenges.
In a new article on Friday, ESPN's Dan Graziano laid out how restricted free agency would work for Aubrey.
"If the Cowboys don't want to extend Aubrey, they could offer him a one-year restricted free agent tender," Graziano writes. "The options would be a first-round tender (likely around $7.8 million), a second-round tender (likely around $5.7 million) or a right of first refusal tender (likely around $3.5 million). If they use the first-round tender, another team offers Aubrey a contract and the Cowboys decline to match the offer, the team that signs Aubrey would have to give the Cowboys a first-round pick. If they use the second-round tender and the same thing happens, the team that signs Aubrey would have to give the Cowboys a second-round pick. But if they use the right of first refusal tender and the same thing happens, the team signing Aubrey wouldn't have to give the Cowboys any compensation at all."

All of those options have some risk. They all create a way for Aubrey to be kicking for a different team next season.
Graziano goes on to write that the Cowboys could give Aubrey the franchise tag, but that if they want to use that on Pickens, that'll be off the table.
"I'll still make a prediction, but I'm going to tone it down a bit because the Cowboys have so much leverage and have shown in previous negotiations with their own players that they aren't afraid to use it," Graziano writes.

His official Aubrey prediction: four years, $24.4 million. That comes in short of Harrison Butker's NFL record for a kicker by a little more than $1 million.
Aubrey would likely still be pretty pleased with that, and maybe Dallas will pay him even more. But it's a fascinating free agent case for sure.
