The Metro Classic 2026 tipped off Thursday afternoon at Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey, with St. Thomas More [Oakdale, CT] Chancellors doubling up the Penn Charter [Philadelphia, PA] Quakers in a 102-51 rout.
The Chancellors are currently ranked among the Top 50 teams in the country, and their joined at the Garden State event by SPIRE Academy National [Geneva, OH], ranked No. 1 in the latest edition of The Sporting News Boys Basketball Top 25.
SPIRE also got its weekend in New Jersey under way in a 69-59 win over the Bergen Catholic [Oradell, NJ] Crusaders, currently New Jersey's No. 5 ranked team in the latest edition of the MaxPreps state rankings. Aiden Derkack led the way for SPIRE with 18 points and 10 rebounds while King Gibson chipped in with 16 points.
Friday's action will get under way at 3 p.m. EST with the Paramus [NJ] Catholic Paladins taking on the Gill St. Bernard's [Gladstone, NJ] Knights. SPIRE Academy National will take the court at 7:15 p.m. EST against the College Achieve [Asbury Park, NJ] Knights.
The game of the day, however, could be St. Thomas More's appearance in the 8:45 p.m. EST nightcap against the Blair Academy [Blairstown, NJ] Bucs featuring the top-rated Class of 2026 senior prospect participating in the event in future Duke Blue Devil Deron Rippey Jr.
Other Class of 2026 Top 100 prospects in town for the the three-day classic include SPIRE Academy National's well-stocked lineup, including SF Tarris Bouie (Alabama), SG Aiden Derkack (Providence), SF Alex Constanza (Georgetown), and C Dorian Rinaldo-Komlan (Iowa State). The event will also feature a Top 10 prospect in Blair Academy's Deron Rippey Jr. who's headed to Duke next fall.
