The Houston Texans have yet another injury concern at the wide receiver position in Week 8, as Nico Collins is uncertain to play.
Collins is currently in the concussion protocol following Week 7 after he banged his head on the turf during the Monday night game against the Seattle Seahawks that forced his early exit.
On Wednesday, Collins did not take part in practice, according to the team's official injury report, which puts him on track to sit out on Sunday.
But that wasn't the only bad sign for Collins' status for the Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Nico Collins injury update
According to Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com, the Texans are elevating wide receiver Jared Wayne from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 8.
That could be a clear indication that the Texans don't think Collins will play, thus they need another pair of hands for quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Of course, Christian Kirk is also dealing with an injury, but he missed last week's game and the Texans didn't elevate a wide receiver, so the move is unlikely to be because of his possible absence. Kirk didn't practice on Wednesday, either.
On Tuesday, head coach DeMeco Ryans called Collins' injury "concerning," which was the first sign of trouble for the Texans' No. 1 wide receiver's availability.
"We'll see how the week goes. Nico is one of our best players. It's concerning. Some things you can't control and try to do the best you possibly can," Ryans explained.
Losing Collins would be a significant blow. If both he and Kirk sit out, Houston is going to be relying on Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins, all of whom are complete wild cards.
Collins still has two more days to get right, but for now it isn't looking good and fantasy football managers should start making other plans.
