After the game, Caufield’s teammates recognized the milestone on Instagram. Captain Nick Suzuki reposted the Canadiens’ graphic on his Instagram stories, adding the caption:

“Mr. OT”

“Vet”

The Canadiens took a 3-0 lead on the night through two periods with goals from Caufield, Slafkovsky and Alex Newhook. Seattle responded in the third with three straight goals, two from Brandon Montour and one from Shane Wright, before Caufield’s overtime winner sealed it.

Nick Suzuki assisted on all three of Montreal’s regulation goals extending his point streak to ten games, the longest active run in the NHL. Jakub Dobes stopped 18 shots to remain undefeated at 6-0-0.

Cole Caufield jokes he had ‘bedtime’ to get to

During the postgame presser, Nick Suzuki praised Cole Caufield’s poise and confidence in clutch moments saying it’s no surprise he is already among the fastest in team history to rack up so many overtime goals.

When Caufield took the podium moments later, he was in good spirits. Asked jokingly if he had somewhere to be after ending the game so quickly, the winger grinned:

“Uh, bedtime. [laughs]”

However, Caufield admitted the win didn’t come easy. He said the Canadiens let things slip after going up 3-0 but showed resilience when it mattered most.

“At the end of the day it’s a huge two points,” he noted.

Caufield was also pleased with how his line with Juraj Slafkovsky and Suzuki performed calling it one of their better nights at both even strength and on the power play. He credited Slafkovsky for his confidence with the puck and said the trio “led the way” from the start.

Caufield’s goal moved him past the previous franchise mark for most overtime goals, a record that had stood since the 1970s. He now sits tied for the NHL lead with nine goals this season and continues to pace Montreal’s attack alongside Suzuki, who has 16 points in his last ten games.
