When talking about the best college football coaches of all-time, Alabama Crimson Tide legend Nick Saban is usually at the top or near the top of everyone's list. The amount of success that he had throughout his career was unbelievable.
Saban stepped away from coaching prior to the 2024 college football season. To replace him, Alabama brought in Kalen DeBoer.
At the time, it was believed that the changes in college football with NIL and the transfer portal were the main reasons for Saban's departure. Saban has now spoken out and set the record straight about why he really decided to step away from coaching.
In an apperance with Paul Finebaum, Saban revealed that it was because of his age, not because of the changes occurring within the NCAA.
"I didn't get out of coaching because the system in college football right now," Saban said. "I got out because of my age. I thought it was affecting the program. I didn't want to ride the program down. I think the people at Alabama now will do a great job there."
That changes a lot of opinions that had been formed since his departure.

Due to Saban leaving the Crimson Tide, Alabama suffered a major setback. A lot of talented players opted to follow him and enter the transfer portal. DeBoer has his work cut out for him getting the Crimson Tide back to the level they were playing at under Saban.
Throughout his college football head coaching career, Saban compiled a 292-71-1 record. He also won seven national championships.
With Alabama specifically, Saban went 201-29, with all seven of those championships coming in that time period.
