Having spent many years as a regular in the Phillie' outfield, Nick Castellanos saw his playing time take a significant hit towards the end of the 2025 season, as skipper Rob Thomson experimented with alternative options.

Unhappy with his situation, Castellanos is reportedly on his way out of the club this winter. That move looks even more likely now, as the Phillies signed two-time All-Star and World Series champion Adolis Garcia to a one-year, $10 million deal on Tuesday. Just like Castellanos, Garcia is also primarily a right fielder.

On an episode of "The Phillies Show" that aired later the same day, insider Todd Zolecki of MLB.com explained why finding a suitor for Castellanos may be challenging. A clip of Zolecki's comments later made it to X.

"He (Adolis Garcia) is going to replace Nick Castellanos in right field," Zolecki said. "We've been talking for months about how Nick won't come back. Last week at the winter meetings, (I was) trying to check around if anybody's interested in Nick Castellanos, I couldn't find anybody. I've hear people say they're not interested in any price. The defense is a big reason why. "Another person I talked to said, If Nick is traded at all, it will happen much later in the offseason. When every other option falls off the board, maybe the last team standing that still needs a right-handed bat will want to make a trade with the Phillies."

About a day later, Nick Castellanos' wife, Jessica, came across the post. She left a comment, seemingly dismissing Zolecki's comments.

"lol," Jessica Castellanos commented.

"Whatever happens is going to happen" - Nick Castellanos speaks about his future

On Dec. 5's episode of "Hot Stove," Nick Castellanos spoke about the trade rumors surrounding him, and where he feels his future may lie.

"Well, I have no idea," Castellanos said. "All I know is that this offseason, I know that I wanted to just live as simple as possible, focus on training and being in a great spot just so I’m physically ready for 162 [games] next year. You know? "There’s a lot of stuff right now that’s out of my control as far as like the trade talks and everything. So, I’m just trying to focus on making sure today, I get done what needs to get done. Whatever happens is going to happen.”

Castellanos is still owed a $20 million salary for the 2026 season, and this is another factor that is allegedly proving to be a major deterrent in the Phillies efforts of moving him on.
