NFL trade prediction sees Steelers and Saints pull off deal before the deadline

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints have been paired quite often when it comes to trade speculation and rumors.

That's because the Steelers need a No. 2 wide receiver and the Saints have two wide receivers in Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave who could be available at the trade deadline.

While all signs point to Olave not being available, ESPN's Adam Schefter believes that one of Olave or Shaheed will be moved, and Schefter thinks it'll be the latter.

"We've got the New Orleans Saints sitting on a collection of wide receivers in which I think at least one will be dealt," he said on his podcast. "And if I had to bet, I would say Rashid Shaheed is the guy that interests most teams for his speed and talent."

With rumors swirling around the Saints wide receiver, and with the Steelers' need at the position, Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon predicts the Steelers will trade a sixth-round pick for Shaheed at the deadline.

Why it could happen: It appears the Saints want to work to re-sign the younger and more accomplished Chris Olave, leaving Shaheed as an obvious candidate to join a Steelers team that needs someone to pair with DK Metcalf for a potential playoff run.

The Saints need to get a rebuild going and the best way to do that is to acquire more picks. A sixth for Shaheed is no great return, but it's something and better than the nothing the Saints could be left with if Shaheed leaves in free agency in 2026.

Shaheed would immediately be the second-most accomplished wide receiver on the Steelers' roster and would be a great fit in the WR2 role. Shaheed has 431 receiving yards and two scores, which is made more impressive by the fact that the Saints have one of the worst quarterback situations in the NFL.

Shaheed is capable of making plays at all three levels, but he is especially potent as a deep threat, something the Steelers could use more of.

For the price of a sixth-round pick, it would be well worth it to add Shaheed, who is also young enough at 27 years old to be a long-term solution if he plays well enough to land a contract extension from Pittsburgh.
