The Dallas Cowboys fell 24-16 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on "Thursday Night Football" to kick off the NFL's Week 5 festivities, and it wasn't a good look for the franchise. The main reason this loss was rough is because the Cowboys fell to a 0-4 Buccaneers team that has undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels subbing for the injured Baker Mayfield.
You know something is wrong when you're losing to an undrafted free agent, but in all seriousness, Daniels was impressive. So, it could be more about his impressive showing than the Cowboys tanking, but still, this franchise is already on the clock to turn things around this season.
Two Cowboys players fined by the NFL
Now, to add insult to injury, the NFL is punishing two Cowboys players for their actions in Week 4 of the NFL season. Every weekend, the NFL sends out a report with its weekly punishments for holding players accountable for their actions during the prior week's games.
"Player infractions may come to the league's attention in a variety of ways. The league may respond to an official's call during a game or to a specific play that a team submits for review," the league notes.
In this weekend's report, the NFL slaps Cowboys player Reddy Steward with a $5,583 fine for unnecessary roughness due to a hit on a defenseless player at 10:57 in the third quarter, as well as Kavontae Turpin with an $11,941 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct due to taunting at 10:50 in the third quarter.
So, it's just a bit more bad news for two guys playing for a franchise that's hurting. But it's still early in the season, so the Cowboys have lots of time to come back.
