Texas A&M suffered another tough loss on Saturday, this time to Missouri 27-6, putting the spotlight squarely on head coach Mike Elko. After the game, though, Elko turned the spotlight back onto a notable media member.

Elko called out known Texas A&M insider Billy Liucci and his message board in the postgame press conference. That is notable since Liucci has been one of the most prominent media members covering Aggies college football for almost three decades.

With Texas A&M's season teetering on disaster, Elko's decision to call out Liucci may not have been a wise decision. Here's a breakdown of Elko's statement and the reaction.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko attacks massive Aggies message board

After Texas A&M's loss to Missouri on Saturday, head coach Mike Elko was asked about fans who might be losing faith in the program. Elko then attacked the Aggies message board called TexasAgs, which Elko called "Billy's cesspool."

"There's a difference to me between the fan base and social media," Elko said. "There's the one group that I really don't care much about, Billy's cesspool can go be Billy's cesspool. Our fan base, stay with us, be behind us, we're going to build something that we told you we were going to build. We're in a really bad spot right now, but we'll work our way out of it."

Texas A&M has now lost three of its last four games, likely putting the team out of the College Football Playoff picture, and now Elko has put himself under an even brighter spotlight.

Who is Billy Liucci?

Billy Liucci is the executive editor of TexasAgs.com and one of the biggest insiders for Aggies college football. Liucci first began covering Texas A&M in 1997 for the Maroon & White Report, a print publication, but took over at TexasAgs.com after the site merged with the publication. Liucci is also a graduate of the school, as he graduated from Texas A&M in 1998.

After Elko called out TexasAgs.com, Liucci responded on social media with jabs at Elko of his own. Among the things Liucci called Elko's statement were "tone deaf" and "a wildly unnecessary misstep."

@AndyStaples He's making the cesspool worse every time he steps to the podium lately.

@chorizoqueso1 @Travis_L_Brown Personally, I think he needs to spend less time on the site as the head coach but that's just me.

— Billy Liucci (@billyliucci) October 10, 2026

@dannyrose_8 @TexAgs @DavidNuno Ridiculously tone deaf statement.

— Billy Liucci (@billyliucci) October 10, 2026

Going to show restraint here (for now) and get back to answering questions, but the head coach losing 27-6 then immediately calling out an incredibly large portion of the loyal but also understandably frustrated fan base was a wildly unnecessary misstep.

How big is TexasAgs.com?

TexasAgs.com is among the largest independent run fan message boards in college sports, which has its fair share of those kind of message boards. It is big enough that Liucci is one of the leading insiders for Texas A&M football and is well-known among prominent college football reporters.

This can't be a real quote. Did Mike Elko just call out the most prominent media member covering Texas A&M (Billy Luicci) and the biggest outlet covering the team (@TexAgs)? If you want to lose the fan-base fast - blame media when you're 3-3 and just scored 6 points in a loss
