Following a thrilling 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, the Los Angeles Chargers sit at 7-3 on the season and are currently the top Wild Card in the AFC playoff race. Though there is still a lot of football to be played, the Chargers are becoming one of the top teams in the conference.
After getting out to a 2-0 start this season, the Chargers were highly ranked in various power rankings. A loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers knocked them down a few notches and they haven't been able to return to the top 10... until now.
In his most recent power rankings article, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News puts the Chargers right at No. 10. Here is what he had to say:
"The Chargers have Justin Herbert cooking with the downfield passing game to complement their physical rushing attack. In turn, that's putting the defense in more favorable situations. That's Jim Harbaugh's immediate major impact."
The Chargers will have their biggest test of the 2024 season next Monday night when they take on the Baltimore Ravens, one of the AFC teams ranked higher than them (N0.8) in the power rankings.
Chargers vs. Ravens in Har-Bowl III
There will be quite a bit of talk this coming week about Jim Harbaugh and John Harbaugh's teams meeting next Monday night. When Jim coached the San Francisco 49ers, he played his brother, John, twice and the Ravens won each of those matchups, including Super Bowl XLVII.
If the Chargers can find away to beat the Ravens, they can expect to vault up the power rankings even further, perhaps even to the top 5.
