NFL insider's take on Maxx Crosby trade rumor offers hope for Cowboys, 49ers

5 hours ago 3

The Dallas Cowboys were the center of a massive trade rumor recently that revealed their interest in Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

The rumor, which came from former ESPN anchor Trey Wingo, said that Dallas put in a call to the Raiders to inquire about a trade for Crosby.

Cowboys fans weren't able to stay excited for long, though, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Jane Slater later reported that the Raiders have no interest in trading Crosby, and Crosby himself doesn't want to be moved.

However, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio is calling cap on that. He believes that the star edge rusher and four-time Pro Bowler could indeed be available for the right price. To be clear, this is speculation from Florio, not a rumor or report.

Here's why Florio thinks that about Crosby:

“NFL media reported last night that the Raiders told Crosby, we’re not shopping you and we won’t be trading you. And also they reported that Crosby wants to stay. I don’t know that I believe the last part.” Florio said on PFT Live.

“I think he’s stuck, and he got paid and you know, if they’re not going to trade him, it’s not it’s not useful for him to start making it known he doesn’t want to be there,” he added. “I still don’t believe that Crosby falls into that category of untouchable players. And I think a sufficient offer would potentially get their attention.”

Florio goes on to add that it's logical for the Raiders to put out the fire surrounding a possible Crosby trade because it wouldn't help them maximize a return for their best defensive player.

“We’ve seen this before. We know how it goes. You don’t get maximum value for a player if you tell the world we want to trade the player. You have to be coy. You have to create a market. You have to maximize through negotiation what you get. That’s what we’re thinking. I’m thinking it’s possible. I’m not saying it will happen. I just don’t believe the denial. I don’t think he’s an untouchable player," Florio concluded.

Despite the report from Pelissero and Slater, it's not crazy to think the Raiders could trade Crosby. Las Vegas is a dumpster fire once again this year and Crosby has not been shy about sharing his frustration with the constant losing with the Raiders.

He isn't getting any younger and might desire a chance to compete for a Super Bowl, something the rebuilding Raiders won't be able to offer for years, if ever.

Florio's take offers hope that the Cowboys can pull off a blockbuster trade, which they are clearly interested in doing based on their reported interest in Crosby and Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who doesn't figure to be available.

We know Dallas has the assets to do something big with two first-round picks in 2026. To pry Crosby away from the Raiders, it'll likely take at least a first-round selection.

The San Francisco 49ers have been another team big-game hunting for an edge rusher, with the team also reportedly having interest in Hendrickson. And, if the Niners are interested in a Hendrickson trade, they'd almost certainly be players when it comes to a Crosby deal.

After all, Crosby is one of the few people on this planet who can fill the shoes of Nick Bosa, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

If we had to put money on it, we'd say Crosby stays put. But if he does hit the trade block, we'd expect both Dallas and San Francisco to come calling.
