The Philadelphia Eagles got some horrible news after Week 5, as Jalen Hurts was revealed to have a blood clot in his calf that initially was going to sideline him for just Week 6. But, he then landed on injured reserve a few days later.
It was revealed his blood clot issue is a lot more serious than a simple short-term problem. He's going on blood thinners, and will miss the rest of the year. But, there is some insane context that came out from an NFL insider on Hurts' injury.
According to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, Hurts initial diagnosis before the Jaguars game led him to staying awake for 36 hours before playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Jalen Hurts played vs. Jaguars in London after being awake for 36 hours
"How committed is Jalen Hurts to football? After initially being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in London, doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, so he had been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started against the Jaguars, throwing for 220 yards and a TD."
This update from Pelissero is a crazy one. Hurts, after knowing about his superficial blood clot, played in the London game against the Jaguars without any sleep.
Hurts played against the Jaguars on no sleep, and while it was a morning matchup based on East Coast time, it is still completely ridiculous that he played in this game.
Against the Jaguars, a tough defense, Hurts went 21 of 40 passing for 220 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, with one sack and two rushing yards.

He threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper and also led what should've been a game-winning field-goal drive without his best weapons on offense. While it resulted in a loss, it was a solid effort from Hurts.
But this added context, that he played with a blood clot in his calf and on no sleep for 36 hours, makes his performance all the more impressive.
It does bring into question why he played in this game at all, considering the concern about his blood clot issue. It's really coming into question after Hurts' season is now over following further diagnosis.
Hurts played in London without having slept for 36 hours, and actually played well, nearly beating a solid Jaguars team. This is a crazy story, and there will likely be plenty of questions about the circumstances of Hurts' playing in London asked going forward.
