Someone has to win the NFC East, right?

That's still true, but no one is currently playing like they want to be in the playoffs.

The Cowboys' 23-13 loss to the Packers on "Sunday Night Football" dropped the division to 0-3 in Week 6, with the Commanders entering as decisive underdogs against the 49ers on Monday night. In Week 5, the results weren't much better.

Here's a look at how the NFC East could make the wrong kind of history by the end of the Week 6.

NFC East on verge of bleak NFL record

If the Commanders lose to the 49ers on Monday, the NFC East will become the first division since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to go winless in back-to-back weeks when all teams played, the Associated Press' Josh Dubow notes.

If Cowboys don't come back tonight and Commanders lose tomorrow, the NFC East would be 1st division since the merger with every team playing in back to back weeks and none of them winning

Even more remarkable, of course, is the fact that two of those teams actually played each other last week. The Giants and Commanders tied in Week 5 after a costly New York turnover and disastrous final sequence by Washington.

The Eagles, meanwhile, have lost four consecutive games, while the Cowboys lost as a decisive favorite against the Buccaneers in Week 5 before falling at Lambeau Field on Sunday night.

The Cowboys, Eagles, Giants and Commanders are a combined 0-5-2 over the last two weeks. A Washington loss would bring that record to 0-6-2 and give the NFC East a piece of history that even the 2010 NFC West, 2020 NFC East and 2022 NFC South couldn't manage.

Here's an updated look at the NFC East standings heading into the final game of the Week 6 slate.

The Giants still, somehow, hold a 1.5-game lead atop the NFC East, meaning they will at least finish Week 7 atop the division.

The good news for the NFC East is that someone likely has to win in Week 7. The Eagles and Cowboys will face off on "Monday Night Football," and the winner will actually be positioned exceptionally well in the division if the Giants don't pick up a win over the Texans.

The Commanders, meanwhile, can slide up to second place if they can pull off the upset against the 49ers on Monday. If not, Washington will remain behind the Eagles and Cowboys.
