Newcastle United renew push for Serie A star amid Juventus interest

Newcastle United could return to AC Milan with an improved offer for Malick Thiaw.

The Magpies had their first bid of around €30m [$35m] for 23-year-old Malick Thiaw rejected, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Thiaw has emerged as a serious option for the Premier League club, who continue to weigh alternatives in a summer window that has grown increasingly complex.

The Magpies are actively searching for a new central defender after dropping out of the race for Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.

According to MilanNews, Newcastle are preparing to relaunch their bid with both clubs expecting renewed talks.

Juventus have also shown interest, asking preliminary questions about Thiaw’s availability, but are yet to follow up with a formal offer.

Bayer Leverkusen were previously in the frame but have since stepped back due to concerns over Milan’s asking price.

Thiaw played 31 matches for the Rossoneri last season and is seen as a promising right-footed defender with the kind of aerial presence and ball-playing confidence that could fit into Eddie Howe’s high line.

Right now there is a concern around Eddie Howe’s backline at the moment, especially with Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn all over 30 and Sven Botman managing fitness issues for much of the past year.

The club want to invest in a younger centre-back who fits physical intensity of English football.

Guehi valuation causes delay as Thiaw gains traction in Newcastle United

Newcastle United’s interest in Malick Thiaw could be growing as uncertainty surrounds their pursuit of Marc Guehi.

According to The Times, Newcastle are only prepared to offer £40m[$53m] for Guehi, while Crystal Palace are holding out for £50m [$66m] despite the defender having just one year left on his contract. Liverpool have registered interest as well but are unwilling to meet that valuation.

Newcastle’s push for Guehi last summer saw three separate bids rejected. They could wait until later in the window to see if Palace’s stance softens.

However, with time ticking and competition growing, Eddie Howe could look to continue monitor Thiaw's situation.
