Newcastle United’s chase for a new right winger hit a wall this week. The Magpies saw a £45 million [$61m] offer for Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga swiftly rejected. Forest, flush with new UEFA Conference League money, have made their stance clear and are reportedly demanding £60 million [$81m].
Elanga, who joined Forest from Manchester United in 2023, has been one of the vital assets for the Tricky Trees and proved decisive last season, notching six goals and 11 assists in 38 Premier League games, playing a key role in helping Forest secure a top-seven finish.
With three years left on his deal at the City Ground, Forest aren't under pressure to sell, and Newcastle, despite financial room, are hesitant to match the lofty price.
That pause in pursuit has triggered a pivot.
Newcastle identify Bundesliga star as alternative
Sky Germany now reports that Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi has emerged as a top target. The 23-year-old German international, who scored seven goals in 17 Bundesliga starts last season, has been flagged by Newcastle as a dynamic, multi-positional option.

According to FBref data, Adeyemi ranks in the 95th percentile for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes (0.51) and in the 91st percentile for expected assisted goals (0.32).

Alongside Adeyemi, Newcastle are also keeping tabs on PSV’s Johan Bakayoko and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus. But each of those deals would also require a significant investment.
