Newcastle on red-alert as Premier League boss issues transfer update on 18-goal star

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who once told suitors “nothing will happen” regarding Bryan Mbeumo, has now opened the door to a potential summer exit, just as Premier League clubs circle.

The 25-year-old forward, who has tallied 18 goal this season, is at the heart of Newcastle United’s summer plans. But they aren’t alone. Arsenal and Liverpool are also watching closely.

Mbeumo’s contract runs until 2026, with Brentford holding a one-year extension option, yet Frank’s latest admission might signal the club may be ready to cash in.

Speaking candidly, Frank said: "I lost Neal Maupay, Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney as three key strikers that were 25 goals plus. Every season we replace the goals with other players so I am confident that we can do it again."Frank continued: "We are a selling club, like more or less any other club in the world except the top ten biggest clubs."

He added: "A good squad needs new energy once in a while. So it's not that I just want Wissa and Bryan to go or want to keep them, but there can be all sorts of players. We need energy in the squad, when you get new players in, there's a different energy. But you need to, of course, keep that natural flow."

Mbeumo surpasses Ivan Toney's Brentford goal tally

Bryan Mbeumo has now scored more goals for Brentford than former striker Ivan Toney, according to statmuse.

Mbeumo, who joined the Bees in August 2019 for reportedly £5.8 million, has netted 40 goals in 131 appearances, surpassing Toney's 36 goals in 83 matches during the 2024-25 campaign.

Toney, who signed for Brentford in August 2020 for reportedly £5 million, departed for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli in August 2024 for a reported £40 million.

Meanwhile, Yoane Wissa, who arrived in August 2021 for a reported £8.5 million, has contributed 42 goals in 132 appearances. Wissa became Brentford's record Premier League goalscorer in January 2025 with his 37th Premier League goal.
