Newcastle land transfer boost as Premier League rivals drop asking price

Newcastle United could finally get the green light to sign Marc Guehi, with Crystal Palace showing signs they are ready to cash in.

The 24-year-old England center-back was on Eddie Howe’s radar last summer, but Palace’s £75–£80 million [$101m-108m] price tag kept the Magpies at bay, and now, with Guehi entering the final year of his contract and no progress on an extension, sources suggest Palace are softening their stance.

According to some reports, the South London club may consider offers closer to £50 million [$67m], and with Guehi potentially walking for free in 2026 and interest growing from Tottenham and Chelsea, Palace have to weigh risk against reward.

Palace are already preparing for life post-Guehi. Portuguese outlet A Bola reports that they’ve made contact with Sporting CP over a £38 million [$51m] move for Ousmane Diomande, a 21-year-old Ivorian defender also tracked by Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United.

That potential signing could pave the way for Newcastle’s move.

Signs point to Palace planning for Guehi's exit

While Palace are under no financial pressure to sell, Guehi’s expiring deal and Diomande’s price tag mean a reportedly £50 million could make sense.

Newcastle, who need defensive reinforcements for the Champions League this season, have not made a signing yet this summer beyond 18-year-old Antonio Cordero.

However, they’re ready to act, and sources suggest funds are available without needing to sell first. The summer window pauses briefly on June 10, reopening June 16, but with Newcastle's next match not until July 19 at Celtic, the delay changes little.
