New York Mets claim 6-year MLB infielder from Tigers

After defeating the Atlanta Braves in a three-game series this weekend, the New York Mets have made several roster moves during their upcoming series against the Cincinnati Reds

Linked is the official X post of the roster moves.

Included in the roster announcements is the news that the Mets have claimed infielder Zack Short off waivers from the Detroit Tigers. Detroit DFA'd Short last week.

MLBTR.com's Darragh McDonald outlined some of the other Mets' roster moves:

"On the pitching side, the Mets also placed right-hander Christian Scott on the 15-day IL, retroactive to June 12th, with a right hip impingement. Fellow righty Daniel Duarte was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Righties Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro were recalled to replace those two."

Mets Claim Zack Short

So, what does this roster move mean for the Mets?

Zack Short has played in parts of six MLB seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, New York Mets (in 2024), and Boston Red Sox

This season with the Tigers, Short played 23 games and batted .167 with just six hits and 2 RBI.

For his MLB career, Short is a lifetime .172 hitter with 15 home runs in 540 at-bats.

During his previous stint with the Mets, Short hit .111 in nine AB's with the Mets.

This is likely purely a depth move for the Mets, but it's at least a solid pickup if the Mets need a replacement in the infield.
