New York Jets schedule 2025: Dates & times for all 17 games, strength of schedule and predictions

3 hours ago 1

The Jets enter 2025 with easily the longest playoff drought in the NFL after falling short for 14 consecutive seasons. Unlike last year, it wouldn't be fair to say the Jets snapping the drought is the expectation in 2025.

New York has a new regime between coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey, each first-timers in the role. The Jets also brought in a new quarterback in Justin Fields, who has shown flashes with his legs during stints with the Bears and Steelers but has yet to prove himself as a long-term starter.

The Jets' path to contention in 2025 likely runs through the running game and a defensive resurgence. New York heads into the season more confident in its offensive line than it has been in a long time, and the trio of Fields, Breece Hall, and Braelon Allen could lead one of the AFC's strongest rushing attacks. On the defensive side of the ball, the Jets are looking for Sauce Gardner to rebound from a down season.

After winning five games, the standard for the Jets in 2025 is likely just improvement — with the realistic hope that an injection of life from the new regime can keep the team playing meaningful games deep into the year.

Here is a complete breakdown of the Jets' 2025 schedule, including dates, start times, and analysis for all 17 games.

Jets strength of schedule

The Jets have the seventh-easiest strength of schedule for 2025, as their opponents had a combined .460 winning percentage in 2024. Strength of schedule is based purely on the previous season's records, so it's far from an exact way to determine how strong or weak a team's schedule is.

New York stumbled to a 5-12 season but didn't get a last-place schedule because the Patriots (4-13) finished last in the AFC East. That means the Jets missed out on matchups with the Giants and Raiders in favor of matchups with the Cowboys and Broncos, adding a tougher layer to the slate.

Toughest tests: The Jets go on the road and face the Bengals, Ravens, and Buccaneers in addition to the Bills. Given Fields' limitations as a passer, facing quarterbacks with the abilities of Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson could be an enormous challenge for New York this season.

The Patriots are also unlikely to be as weak of an opponent this season with Drake Maye expected to take a step forward and major additions on both sides of the ball. That means the AFC East might not offer any true breaks for the Jets, particularly with Tua Tagovailoa healthy for the Dolphins.

Biggest breaks: The Browns and Panthers both come to MetLife Stadium this season in games that should be major opportunities for the Jets to pick up wins. New York also goes on the road to face the Jaguars and Saints, with Jacksonville coming off a three-win season and New Orleans facing major quarterback questions after an ugly finish to 2024.

Whether the Jets can pick off games against the Falcons or Broncos at home could be key to staying in contention in 2025.

Jets record prediction

  • Over/under win total: 5.5, per BetMGM

Bottom line: The Jets historically beat expectations in year one under a new head coach. Will that trend carry over to 2025? There is little doubt a new regime can inject some life back into a franchise, and it's easy to forget New York won seven games in both 2022 and 2023 with a broken passing game. If the Jets can get their defense back to where it was in those seasons and run the ball the way they envision, there is a path to a more competitive season than 2024.

New offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand undoubtedly envisions a three-headed monster of Fields, Hall, and Allen joining forces with a solid offensive line and running the ball right at defenses. The rushing attack will be absolutely essential for the Jets unless Fields can show something he hasn't yet shown as a passer in the NFL. Fields has a limited group of receiving weapons outside of Garrett Wilson, so he isn't set to receive too much help in that department.

In a division dominated by the Bills, it's tough to see the Jets separating themselves from the pack, short of a dream season from Fields. New York still has enough talent to handle business against non-contenders and pick up a few wins — perhaps more than last season — but the path to beating teams who have great quarterback play is going to be difficult in 2025.

Record prediction: 7-10
