New York Giants hit with brutal 2025 NFL season prediction

6 hours ago 1

The start of a new NFL season always sparks hope in every fan base, regardless of how bad a team was the year before. For the 2025 New York Giants, that hope is renewed through a revamped quarterback room and a defense that has a chance to be one of the top overall units in the league this season.

But after winning just nine total games over the last two seasons, the Giants have entered 'believe it when you see it' territory.

Russell Wilson is the new QB1, and while his resume ranks among the top starters in the NFL, he's looked like a shell of himself the last few seasons. As a result, this year will be his last chance to prove he still has starter's stuff, and if he struggles early, coach Brian Daboll will waste little time handing the offense over to first-round pick Jaxson Dart.

And that's when the season could go off the rails.

It's not because Dart isn't a promising player. He's quite the opposite, actually. But the reality for teams forced to start a rookie quarterback usually is a losing season, unless you're Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.

If the Giants end up in that place, they could become trade-deadline sellers. In fact, they were recently ranked among the five teams that are most likely to ship off veterans by the time mid-October rolls around.

"Thrusting Dart into the fire could be Daboll’s last-ditch hopes of retaining his position, but the Ole Miss product is going to have his work cut out adjusting to the speed of the NFL behind an offensive line PFSN ranked No. 28 in the league going into the 2025 season," Bleacher Report's Alex Kay wrote.

"If Dart is starting and the Giants are well out of contention by October, expect this regime to start selling ownership on their future potential while dumping veterans and bringing more assets aboard," Kay continued.

In theory, this makes sense. The New York Giants should be a team that's playing for the future and looking to build around Dart if the 2025 season is lost, and lost early. But if that's the case, then Daboll and GM Joe Schoen are likely to be gone, too. I doubt ownership will grant that kind of roster flexibility if they know neither decision-maker will be around at season's end.

The best way to avoid this dilemma is by winning games. We'll see if Big Blue has enough to get that done early in 2025.
