The New York Giants are benching quarterback Daniel Jones coming out of the bye week, according to multiple reports Monday.

As general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll look toward the future at the game's most important position, the decision has been made to move on from the former No. 6 overall pick.

In what has been a grueling six-year process since being drafted by Dave Gettleman in 2019, the Giants are finally making a change at quarterback.

Not only is this a football decision to bench Jones considering his poor play for the majority of his tenure in East Rutherford, but the Giants also protecting themselves from the $23 million injury guarantee that kicks in this offseason.

Coming off a torn ACL, Jones continued to struggle. In 10 starts, he completed 63% of his passes for eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and an 82.2 passer rating. He took 67 carries for 265 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and four fumbles.

While the Giants signed Drew Lock this offseason to serve as the backup quarterback to Jones, the front office made the decision to start Tommy DeVito for the time being, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Giants got a look at DeVito under center last season after both Jones and Tyrod Taylor dealt with injuries. The New Jersey native flashed some impressive traits during a six-game stretch as the starter.

In those six games, DeVito completed 64% of his passes for 913 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception while adding 28 carries for 166 rushing yards.

With the Giants out of playoff contention, they are expected to be among the teams actively searching for a new quarterback this offseason.
