For the first time in program history, the New Mexico Lobos are ranked in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll. They've reached new heights in Albuquerque under coach Jason Eck. This has been 90 years in the making for New Mexico.

To put this into perspective, there have been over 1,200 polls since 1936. The Lobos have finally made an appearance on the national level. At 7-1, the Lobos have put together a solid resume at No. 22 in this week’s rankings. After downing San Jose State 21-16 on Saturday night, Eck's team remained at the top of the Mountain West Conference standings.

The lone loss for New Mexico came on the road against Oklahoma by a score of 14-6.

The Lobos have made their case to be a Group of Six team in the College Football Playoff. All they have to do is win out. But as of right now, they're ahead of SEC teams Florida and South Carolina. The only other G6 team in the ranking is Boise State out of the Pac-12 at No. 20.

Next up, New Mexico faces Nevada, who got shut out 27-0 by No. 5 UCLA. Outside the Wolfpack, the Lobos' final opponents have a combined record of 16-8. We'll see if New Mexico can finish the year off strong with an unprecedented postseason bid.

New Mexico travels to Nevada on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
