Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube failed to make his opportunity at No. 3 count in the fourth T20I against Australia in Carrara on Thursday, November 6. Dube walked out to bat after a 56-run opening partnership was broken in the seventh over, much to the surprise of most.
The left-hander's batting position has been a major talking point coming into the contest. Dube batted at No. 8 in the second T20I and did not come out to bat even after the fall of the fifth wicket in the following outing.
However, the 32-year-old was promoted to one-drop in the ongoing contest, only to disappoint with the bat. Dube smashed a massive six off Adam Zampa but struggled to cope against the Aussie pacers, falling for 22 off 18 deliveries.
Fans on X were unimpressed by the decision to send Shivam Dube at No. 3 and the southpaw's snail-paced innings.
Here are some of the best reactions:
Very poor call to send dube up at num 3. This team management never fails to baffle me. #INDvsAUS #INDvAUS #AUSvsIND #AUSvIND #CricketTwitter #TeamIndia
If dube cannot hit pacers and he cannot always bat one down with sky and tilak there. Even cannot bowl. Then why the hell is he even in the team. #INDvsAUS #dube #gambhir
Dube can't even Stand infront of Quality pace but Sent him at 3 to eat the balls.. masterstroke saar
Fans continued to express their anger over Dube's subpar display at No. 3, with one saying:
"So predictable that dismissal was from Dube. I won't have him in my team just because he can somewhat hit spin which other's can as well. Such a limited batter." "Dube is pathetic against fast or medium fast bowlers. We are wasting a spot in the team just because he can hit a couple of sixes against spinners. The whole batting order has been shuffled for this mediocre VC & he's making sure he gets his own runs at the cost of other batsmen," posted a fan. "Shivam dube should not be playing cricket at this level," a fan said.Team India push on towards a competitive total despite Shivam Dube's sub-par display
Team India continued their march towards a competitive first innings total despite Shivam Dube's lackluster showing in the fourth T20I against Australia. With the five-match series tied at 1-1, the all-important contest began with the visitors losing another toss and being asked to bat first.
Dube's dismissal left India searching for momentum at 88/2 in the 12th over. However, skipper Suryakumar Yadav provided some much-needed impetus from the get-go, smashing Adam Zampa for two maximums in his first five deliveries.
Yet, on the other end, vice-captain Shubman Gill struggled throughout his innings and was dismissed for a 39-ball 46. Surya fell soon for 20 off 10 balls as India slipped to 125/4 in the 16th over.
